The Federal Government has certified excellent teachers and schools in Nigeria for their extraordinary contributions to education and national development. The event was the climax of the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration and the President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards, which was on Sunday at the Eagle Square, Abuja, with the theme “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession.”
Leading the list of the awardees was Emmanuel Ozor Charles of Greater Tomorrow International College, Ondo State, who received the Best Public Private School Teacher award, which had a cash value of ₦3.5 million. Solanke Francis Taiwo of Ansar-Udeen Main School, Kemta, Abeokuta, Ogun State, received the Best Teacher (CAR) award for his dedication towards rearing minds and academic excellence.
In the Basic School category, Woliwo Primary School, Onitsha, Anambra State, took home the Best School (BUS) award, while Onike Girls Junior High School, Lagos, was the Best Junior Secondary School (BUS) for its superior academic performance, discipline, and commitment to empowering the girl child.
Mrs. Odenike Fausat Mobolaji of Elepe Community Junior High School, Ikorodu, Lagos took home the Best School Leader award and ₦3.5 million for her exemplary leadership and mentorship. Fayomi Felix of Idepe High School, Okitipupa, Ondo State, also received ₦3.5 million for being the Best Public School Teacher, for his innovative pedagogy and devotion to students’ achievement.
Coronating the coronation event was Ubani Roseblund Ibiyiye of Federal Government College, Abuloma, who won the much coveted Best Teacher award, with a ₦3.5 million cash prize, representing the pinnacle of teaching excellence in Nigeria.
In the course of the ceremony, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, restated the determination of the Federal Government towards improving the welfare and professional development of teachers in the country.
It is surprising how the global community continues to recognize the selfless dedication of teachers, who remain the backbone of development across the latitudes. Celebrating teachers is investing in quality education, student achievement, and national growth,” Alausa declared.
He stressed cooperation in teaching, highlighting that co-teaching, peer mentoring, and teamwork enhance learning results and job satisfaction. The minister also highlighted ongoing government efforts to revitalize the teaching profession through schemes like the National Teacher Policy, which offers ongoing training and empowerment for educators.
The role also encompassed the awards to model governors, best march past awards, and other awards under President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards.
