Former PSC Chairman, DIG Parry Osayande, Dies in Benin City

Hardly a month after the demise of the former Police Service Commission (PSC) chairman, IGP Solomon Arase (rtd), another former PSC chairman, DIG Parry Osayande (rtd), is deceased.

PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani corroborated in a statement that Osayande passed away early on Sunday in Benin City, Edo State. Coincidentally, Arase was buried just on Saturday in Benin.

Placed in April 2008 by then-President Goodluck Jonathan, Osayande replaced Chief Simon Okeke, the commission’s initial chairman. During his tenure, there was monumental growth, as the commission’s corporate head office acquired presidential endorsement and thereafter found itself based in Abuja’s Jabi District.

The PSC described him as “an erudite and consummate police officer” who was courageous, results-driven, and played a pivotal role in positioning the commission during its first years.

Incumbent PSC chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd) bemoaned the loss, describing it as a bad blow to the commission. He urged Nigerians to keep praying for the PSC as it battles the loss of two ex-chairmen within a month.
