Germany Orders Citizens to Leave Iran Amid Rising Nuclear Tensions

Germany has encouraged its citizens to leave Iran as quickly as possible and avoid visiting the country, threatening retaliatory actions by Tehran against Berlin’s moves in reimposing United Nations sanctions on Iran’s nuclear programme.

Britain, France, and Germany launched a 30-day process on Thursday to reimpose U.N. sanctions on Iran, a measure expected to heighten tensions just two months after U.S. and Israeli airstrikes targeting Iran.

The German Foreign Ministry cautioned that Iranian officials had “repeatedly threatened consequences” and that German interests and nationals in Iran would be made the target of retaliations.

It also stated that the German Embassy in Tehran is currently operating at diminished consular capacity.
