Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on members of the Nigerian Association of Orthodontics to embrace technology and innovation as drivers of enhancing the delivery of healthcare in the country.
The governor called for the above during a visit to the 19th Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of the association in Benin City, which was themed “Embracing Technology and Innovations in Orthodontics: Pioneering the Future.” frowned
On behalf of the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, Okpebholo wished the association all the best for being resolute and committed to ensuring oral health in Nigeria. He described orthodontics as not just teeth straightening, but a practice that restores confidence to the person, improves their speech, eating habits, and overall living.
“The thread for the year’s conference is timely and relevant. Artificial Intelligence and other technologies are transforming orthodontic treatment, and we need to make these innovations safe, affordable, and accessible to all Nigerians,” he added.
Previously, the association’s President, Dr. Olayinka Adeyinka, emphasized the importance of the work of orthodontists in correcting malocclusions and rehabilitating cleft lip and palate children at birth. He further stated that patients are mostly from low-income families, and orthodontists alleviate their burden by undertaking interventions on time.
Adeyinka also looked forward to the new president of the association, Professor Idia Ize-Iyamu, and wished her a successful tenure.
