The Federal Government has resumed paying outstanding allowances to National Youth Service Corps members, distributing the second installment of ₦44,000 in arrears nationwide.
The payments, which started on Wednesday, are being processed in batches. This follows the first round of payments made on June 3, 2025.
The arrears stem from the government’s decision to increase corps members’ monthly allowance to ₦77,000, a commitment made earlier this year.
NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu had previously assured that both current and recently discharged corps members would receive the new allowance rate.
Speaking at the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilisation Workshop in Abuja in April, he confirmed the government’s commitment to honoring the payment.
“Once funds are released to us to offset the arrears, we will pay them. Even our corps members who passed out recently will benefit. We have their bank details,” Nafiu said.
The current payment covers arrears from July 2024 to March 2025, providing relief to corps members who had been waiting months for the delayed payments.
