One of the officials, a police inspector who served in the Chairman, Bomadi Local Government Council in Delta State, Inspector O. O. Ojonogba of PMF 51, has been murdered by unknown gun men.
The late officer, who was popularly known as “Ade,” was killed in the early hours of Monday while on duty at the residence of the council chairman in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area.
At the time of the incident, the chairman was said to have been in Asaba on official business, leaving the children at home under the care of the deceased officer.
The assailants, as witnessed by eyewitnesses, entered the compound between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. after breaking into the generator powerhouse when it was operational. They proceeded to the lounge where Inspector Ojonogba was resting and they shot him in the neck.
And after they shot the officer, they entered the main building from the dining room, where one of the protectors of a burglary was smashed. There they met the relatives of the chairman, and they demanded money and jewelry and also shot randomly at the ceiling and walls.
The attackers allegedly filled mobile phones, two iPads, and one laptop owned by the children as they fled the scene.
Confirming the incident, Special Assistant to the Chairman on Security, Mr. Obasanjo Zokumor, described the attack as shocking and unfortunate.
While approached for comments, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, stated that the command had launched a manhunt for the assailants.
