Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has revealed how she prepared to set her Guinness World Record (GWR) attempt of the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice, stating that it involved months of careful planning and meticulous work.
Speaking after the achievement at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, Baci stated the process was challenging but worthwhile.
“I’m very pleased with what we’ve done and achieved today. Honestly, it was a mess getting this entire thing organized. It took Ayo and me two months to make and create the pot, about nine months to plan the event, and nine hours to get the meal ready,” she said.
The chef admitted the process tested her physically and mentally. “A lot of things have happened, and I feel like my mind is jogging now, but I am really happy that we are here,” she added further.
To everyone’s surprise, Baci disclosed that the idea was not initially conceptualized as a world record attempt. “When I created this idea, I did not think of it as a world record,” she said.
She thanked her friends, family, and supporters for believing in her, dedicating the historic meal to them.
Baci, who shot to international fame after the GWR for the longest cooking marathon record that she shattered in 2023, has continued to be a promoter of Nigerian food. Her feat with the jollof rice is being celebrated not just as an attempt at setting a record but also as a demonstration of courage and pride through culture.
Food enthusiasts all over Nigeria and the world now wait for Guinness World Records’ formal validation of the feat.
