The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has met with a high-level delegation from Centenary City Plc, led by its Vice Chairman, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, a former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The Centenary City Project, a Federal Government Legacy Project launched to commemorate Nigeria’s centenary in 2014, is a smart city development aimed at attracting global investment and positioning Nigeria as a business and development hub.
Public-Private Partnership for Housing Development
Minister Dangiwa emphasized that the Centenary City concept aligns with the Renewed Hope City agenda, which seeks to create inclusive urban communities with housing, sports, and medical tourism facilities. He underscored the importance of public-private partnerships (PPP) in addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit and job creation, noting that government funding alone cannot meet the country’s housing needs.
“This government prioritizes ensuring that affordable housing is available to Nigerians while fostering an enabling environment for public-private partnerships to thrive,” he stated.
Dangiwa also revealed that the ministry had received expressions of interest from potential investors and was open to further collaborations on the Centenary City Project. He directed the ministry’s PPP Department to engage with Centenary City Plc and introduce them to the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) for partnership discussions.
Centenary City Seeks Ministry’s Support
Senator Anyim Pius Anyim reaffirmed that Centenary City’s vision aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and called for government collaboration to realize its full potential. He urged the ministry to facilitate investor participation, attract developers, and help secure funding to enable cooperative societies and individuals to own homes in Centenary City.
