Interior Minister Orders Probe Into Alleged Misconduct at Okere Correctional Centre

Nigerian Correctional Service

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into allegations of criminal activities at the Okere Correctional Centre in Warri, Delta State.  This directive follows recent media reports exposing serious misconduct at the facility. In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Babatunde Alao, the Minister strongly condemned the alleged infractions, emphasizing that any officer found culpable would face the full consequences of the law.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline, corruption, and mismanagement within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), stressing that such behavior would not be tolerated under his leadership.

“This warning and my subsequent actions will reflect my unwavering stance on ensuring that public institutions remain transparent, accountable, and free of corruption. I take these allegations seriously and will not allow indiscipline to fester under my watch. The NCoS leadership must provide explanations,” the Minister stated.

The directive recalls a similar tough stance taken by Dr. Tunji-Ojo in 2024 when social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), alleged that cross-dresser Bobrisky was never actually imprisoned despite reports suggesting otherwise. The Minister also urged the public to come forward with any relevant information to support the ongoing investigation. His latest action underscores his continued commitment to ensuring that Nigeria’s correctional system operates with the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
