The founder of Solution Kitchen, Nri, in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Iyom Ngozi Chinelo Obikwelu, has called for increased support for journalists, emphasizing their crucial role in national development. Obikwelu made this appeal during a courtesy visit by the newly elected executive committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, led by Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu. Speaking at the event in Nri, she described journalists as the “powerhouse of society,” highlighting their vital role in disseminating information that shapes public awareness and decision-making.

“Without journalists, we would not know what is happening around the world. They provide crucial information that helps people make informed decisions and take necessary actions. Journalists deserve recognition, honor, and appreciation for the indispensable role they play,” she stated.

While acknowledging that journalists are often underappreciated, she encouraged them to remain steadfast, assuring that their efforts in informing and educating the public would never go unnoticed. Congratulating Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu on his re-election as NUJ Chairman, she praised him as a man of integrity, intelligence, and experience, affirming that his leadership would further strengthen the union. She also pledged continued support to the NUJ in her capacity as a patron.

In response, Comrade Odogwu commended Iyom Obikwelu for being the first patron to celebrate the new executive, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare and protection of journalists in the state.
