Federal High Court Abuja Justice Obiora Egwuatu recused himself from the case of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is the representative of the Kogi Central District.
In the resumed Tuesday, March 25 hearing, Justice Egwuatu disclosed that he had taken the decision after the third defendant, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, had accused him of bias.
According to Linda Ikeji Blog, Akpabio had apparently demonstrated lack of confidence in the court to deal with the case fairly, prompting Justice Egwuatu to disqualify himself.
The judge promised that the file in the case would be returned to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, for reassignment.
Justice Egwuatu had earlier granted an ex-parte order restraining the Senate Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions Committee from disciplining Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The senator had approached the court to stop the Senate and its ethics committee from proceeding with a purported investigation of her.
