The Katsina State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (KTPCACC) investigated 188.6 million worth of suspected frauds, such as fertilizer distribution rip-offs, misappropriation of school money, and misappropriation in the State Department of Banking and Finance.
According to a commission statement, preliminary findings established that councillors and Community Development Officers (CDOs) were suspected to have stolen ₦46,061,000 during subsidised fertiliser distribution under the Community Development Programme. While some of the suspects have come out and started paying refunds, others are still being investigated.
The list indicted dozens of Musawa, Malumfashi, Matazu, Faskari, and Funtua local government area ward officials of collecting unlawful sums ranging from ₦52,000 to more than ₦25 million.
The agency also queried four secondary school principals in Danja, Rimaye, Maigora, and Kurami for allegedly misappropriating ₦6,628,800 that belonged to schools. A principal was also accused of selling school properties amounting to millions of naira.
The commission further unveiled that ₦136,126,970 was allegedly embezzled under Katsina State Department of Banking and Finance. Approximately ₦70,370,000 has already been recovered, with the balance over ₦34 million.
Commission Secretary, Dr. Jamilu M. Abdulsalam, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment towards transparency and accountability, urging residents to report cases of corruption and abuse of office.
“Undertaking all legal means towards ensuring accountability and recovery of public funds,” the statement added.
The commission promised to carry out its investigations with “utmost seriousness and professionalism” in safeguarding public resources and ensuring a corruption-free Katsina State.
