Kingsley Wali Urges Rivers Government to Prioritize Technical Colleges Over New University

Governor Fubara

Philanthropist Kingsley Wali has urged the Rivers State government to revive the three state-owned technical colleges in Port Harcourt, Ahoada, and Tombia, emphasizing their importance in addressing unemployment and skills development.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Wali also advised Governor Siminalayi Fubara to reconsider plans to build a university in his hometown of Opobo. Instead, he proposed establishing a world-class technical college with a focus on information technology, arguing that Rivers State already has enough universities producing unemployable and unemployed graduates.

“I believe a technical college with a strong bias in IT would serve Rivers State better. It’s time we invested in institutions that equip young people with practical skills,” Wali stated.

Additionally, Wali called on Governor Fubara to collaborate with his Bayelsa State counterpart, Senator Douye Diri, to resolve lingering disputes over the International Airport Hotel in Port Harcourt, emphasizing the importance of inter-state cooperation for mutual progress.
