Meghan Markle has officially returned to Instagram, five years after stepping away from the platform. The Duchess of Sussex made her grand reentry on New Year’s Day, sharing a video filmed by her husband, Prince Harry, on a beach near their home in Montecito, California.
In the video, the 43-year-old Markle is seen running barefoot toward the ocean, with her back to the camera. She pauses to write “2025” in the sand, then smiles and jogs away. Though Markle disabled comments on the post, she received “likes” from several celebrity friends, including Serena Williams, Chrissy Teigen, and Tan France.
In August 2023, Page Six reported that Markle secured the Instagram handle @meghan in anticipation of her return. Just hours after creating the account, she had already garnered over 590,000 followers, though she has yet to follow any accounts herself.
Her profile photo is a black-and-white image of her smiling with her hair down.
Earlier, in an interview with The Cut, Markle had hinted at her return to the platform, teasing, “Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back…on Instagram.”
Markle’s return to Instagram comes nearly five years after she and Harry posted for the last time on their now-inactive joint account, @sussexroyal, in March 2020. She had also deactivated her personal Instagram account in January 2018 following her engagement to Harry.
