The Joint Campus Council (JCC) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has strongly opposed attempts by some stakeholders to impose Local Organising Committee (LOC) members on them for the 2025 NANS Convention scheduled to hold in Abuja. In a communiqué issued after a stakeholders’ meeting last Thursday, Comrade Solomon Atabor, Public Relations Officer of NANS JCC FCT, reaffirmed that the exclusive right to constitute the LOC belongs to the host state’s JCC, in line with long-standing NANS tradition.
“Based on the tradition of NANS, the JCC of the hosting state is always given the exclusive right to constitute the LOC for the convention. This is because the JCC has a better understanding of the terrain of the state,” Atabor stated.
Firm Stand Against External Interference
The FCT JCC warned that any attempt to include individuals outside its structure in the LOC would be met with stiff opposition and outright rejection.
“We vehemently reject the involvement of outsiders and view it as an attempt to shortchange NANS JCC in FCT of the right to be in full control of the LOC for this year’s convention,” Atabor added. He further stressed that if external influence persists, it would be preferable to change the convention venue rather than compromise the rights and privileges of the NANS JCC FCT.
