National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized 588 kilogrammes of illicit drugs and destroyed six hectares of cannabis farms in Adamawa State.
Addressing journalists at a parley in Yola, the state commandant Barr. Aliyu Abubakar stated that the operations were conducted in Mijilu village, Mubi North LGA, whereby five suspects were arrested.
58 drug suspects were apprehended, and the agency confiscated 366.8kg of cannabis sativa, 209.8kg of psychotropic substances, and 11.6kg of methamphetamine.
Abubakar disclosed that in September, the agents busted a Honda vehicle with number plate GUY-12AA (Adamawa) with over 500 compressed blocks of cannabis from Akure, Ondo State, to Mubi. Among those arrested were Suleiman Mohammed, a retired convict and notorious trafficker, and another partner in crime, and 40 additional blocks of cannabis were recovered.
He further noted that Operation Farauta saw 131kg of psychotropic drugs confiscated and a Sienna car, which was used for transportation, immobilized.
In addition to enforcement, the commander also noted the agency’s rehabilitation efforts, with 70 drug-dependent individuals, mostly 18-43 years old, undergoing counselling and treatment. Drug integrity tests were also conducted among 25 individuals in sensitive jobs to safeguard productivity and ensure drug-free schools and workplaces.
