Veteran Nollywood actress, Ngozi Ezeonu, has come under fire for her tribute to colleague actress, Nkechi Nweje, who recently died.
The sudden death of Nkechi Nweje has thrown the Nollywood community into mourning, and several colleagues and fans have been grieving the loss.
However, the tribute recently shared on Instagram by Ngozi Ezeonu to the late actress has been receiving mixed reactions.
In her condolence message, Ezeonu was surprised to learn of Nweje’s death, as she was unaware that she was ill before she passed away. She described her as one of the kindest people she had met in the industry.
Her message read:
“It is so hard to believe you are gone, ezigbo nwanyi Onitsha.”
“I never knew you were ill. So I will never see your ever-smiling face again. Nkechi, you were one of the nicest persons I met in Nollywood. This is truly a great loss. GO WELL, MY BEAUTIFUL SISTER.”
Her words, however, did not sit well with some social media users, who questioned the depth of connection and concern within the Nollywood industry.
Amaka Justina wrote: “There’s no love anywhere ooo, and Nollywood says they have a President of the Actors Guild, yet some of them don’t even know about their fellow actors and actresses. Hmmm, situation tire me.”
Nwaku Chigbo wrote: “Very painful death. At least, some others had people aware of their sickness, but this one? No sound, no awareness. RIP, madam.”
Lawrence Chris responded: “You never knew she was sick? It just proves you were not close to her or visiting her regularly.”
