Nollywood in Mourning as Ibrahim Chatta Loses Son

Leading Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta is in mourning after losing his son. The 54-year-old actor announced the devastating news on Saturday via his Instagram handle, albeit without revealing details about the circumstances surrounding the death of the boy.

Sharing a picture of the late son, Chatta wrote: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Ya Allah, You are the Knower of all things. Rest on, Dear son, champ.”

The heartbreaking news elicited a flood of condolences from fans and peers, who took to his comment section to offer sympathy and prayers for strength.

The tragedy comes just days after the Nollywood industry mourned Ayomikun, the only son of veteran actress Peju Ogunmola, who died in Ibadan earlier in the week. The back-to-back losses have plunged the movie industry into a state of deep mourning, with most acknowledging that the days are among the most painful in recent memory.

Chatta has previously talked about losing a child. In June, he revealed that poverty and not having access to quality medical care led to the death of his first-born child, a daughter, a number of years back. He emotionally recalled not being able to pay for a coffin at the time and burying her in an old wooden Coca-Cola box.

His recent bereavement has once more brought to the forefront the personal tragedies underlying Nollywood’s glamour, with fans and peers still coming forward to support him with love and sympathy.
