Ex-Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili went public and accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of failing to take responsibility in the case of sexual harassment, which he had been sued over by suspended Senator Kogi Central Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Ezekwesili accused Akpabio, as well as the Senate, of still standing in the way of a fair and impartial investigation of the serious allegations.
In interview and social media comments, she denounced the administration of the case, claiming Akpoti-Uduaghan had been denied justice.
Akpoti-Uduaghan previously claimed that after the Senate President rebuffed her sexual advances—even before her husband—she was persecuted by the Senate President.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Ezekwesili lamented the action of the Senate and asked why Akpabio and his cronies were postponing an inquiry into the matter.
“This injustice shall not be continued,” she quoted Akpoti-Uduaghan. “Societies that continue to tolerate injustice are trapped in economic stagnation, poverty, and inequality.
We should not keep tolerating the injustice met out to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.”
She also urged Akpabio and the Senate to explain to the world why they have denied Akpoti-Uduaghan a fair hearing as well as violated Senate rules to suspend her.
“The Senate cannot attempt to ‘move on’ from this case. There is no moving on without accountability, transparency, and due process in this gross abuse of power by the nation’s No. 3 public official,” Ezekwesili insisted.
Declaring solidarity with Akpoti-Uduaghan, she added, “Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is never walking alone on this case. Never.”
