Oyo APC Protests Alleged Victimisation of Lawmaker Over ₦300bn Loan Disclosure

The Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday picketed what it called victimisation of its legislature, Hon. Ibraheem Shittu, for allegedly exposing the ₦300 billion loan just signed into law by the Oyo State House of Assembly for Governor Seyi Makinde.

The protest, which began early morning at the APC secretariat, Oke Ado, Ibadan, was organized by the party chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abass, and other party leaders and members.

Shittu, Saki West State Constituency member, had protested at the Assembly’s approval of the massive loan to the governor, an action the APC feels would drown Oyo in unsustainable debt.

Talking to the press, Abas revealed that the protest was aimed at showing support for Shittu, who he said had been sent threatening messages since assuming office on the loan.

We are here to commend him for taking the courage to defy the loan. We are with him,” Abas said. “We also want to let the governor know that he should not turn Oyo State into a chronic borrower. What happened to previous loans?

Abas also revealed that the party issued a letter of protest, warning against any attempt to muzzle or victimise the legislator. “The process of taking over Oyo State has begun,” he went on.
