The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the 2025 budgets for the 33 local government councils of the state, as a move to enhance accountability and service delivery at the grassroots level.
The approval followed a report made by the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and State Honours, Hon. Akintunde Olatunde Emmanuel (Lagelu), during plenary on Tuesday.
The budget seeks to harmonize local government expenditure in line with constitutional provisions and the Oyo State Local Governments Law. The Committee instructed all council areas to strictly stick to the approved capital expenditure for effective implementation.
And one of its propositions was that it also proposed an inter-sessions workshop on financial management and budgeting, arranged by the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Assembly for chairmen and administrative officials of LGAs.
House of Representatives Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, called the project a major stride toward promoting accountability and transparency in governance. He also added that being the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, the project is also going with the national pursuit for local government financial autonomy.
