Police in Oyo State have successfully recovered a Toyota Corolla that was stolen from an Uber driver during an armed robbery in Ibadan.
Osifeso Adewale, the police spokesperson, announced the recovery on Monday, saying officers tracked down and retrieved the vehicle with registration number LSR 893CX through a targeted anti-robbery operation.
The recovery comes at a time when ride-hailing drivers are increasingly becoming targets for armed robbers.
“In recent weeks, there has been an alarming rise in reports of armed robbers attacking Uber drivers at gunpoint, resulting in the theft of their vehicles and cash,” Adewale noted in his statement.
He explained that investigators transferred the case from Iyaganku Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more thorough probe.
Using surveillance technology and tracking methods, the Anti-Robbery Squad managed to locate and recover the stolen car.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police praised the successful operation, saying it demonstrates the command’s commitment to fighting crime head-on.
“The recovery of the stolen vehicle reflects our determination to confront crime proactively.
We are dedicated to protecting citizens and ensuring those responsible for these criminal acts are brought to justice,” he stated.
Police are asking residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities as they continue working to reduce crime throughout the state.
