The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Action Congress (AAC) in Zamfara State faced major setbacks over the weekend as top members of both parties defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors, including the 2023 AAC governorship candidate, Muhammad Kabir Sani, and the Forum of PDP Former State House of Assembly Candidates, were officially received into the APC at a grand event on Saturday. They joined through the Jajiyya Political Movement, under the leadership of Zamfara State APC chairman, Alhaji Isiyaka Ajiya Anka.
The move was endorsed by Hon. Dr. Aminu Sani Jaji, Chairman of the House Committee on Ecological Fund, who commended the defectors for their decision. He described their defection as a positive development for both the party in Zamfara and Nigeria as a whole. Jaji assured the new members of fair treatment and full inclusion in party affairs, emphasizing that their political experience would strengthen both the Jajiyya Movement and the APC in the state.
“I urge you to remain with APC and contribute your best for the growth of our party,” Jaji stated.
Alhaji Isiyaka Ajiya Anka, the APC state chairman, hailed the Jajiyya Political Movement as the most formidable leadership structure within the party, with strong influence across the 14 local government areas of the state. He assured the defectors of equal opportunities and urged them to work towards fostering unity, peace, and stability within the APC.
Similarly, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, chairman of the Jajiyya Political Movement Coordination Committee, described the mass defection as a major success for the APC in Zamfara. With this latest wave of defections, the APC in Zamfara State has further consolidated its political strength ahead of future elections.
