Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially zoned its 2027 presidency ticket to the South, restricting the competition for its flagbearer to individuals from the South.
The action was taken on Monday at the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
Making the statement, PDP leaders announced the zoning was done to promote unity, equity, and fairness in the party for the 2027 general elections.
“The NEC has resolved that the presidential ticket of our great party for the 2027 general election is hereby zoned to the South,” the leadership said in a communique.
The development is expected to trigger bitter political maneuvering as southern top brass in the PDP prepare to slug it out for the ticket to challenge the sitting All Progressives Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, the PDP’s national elective convention has been scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, where other strategic party seats will be contested.
