Portable Cries Out as Ogun State Government Moves to Shut Down His Bar

Nigerian singer Portable has taken to social media to express his frustration over the Ogun State Government’s decision to shut down his establishment, ODOWGU Bar. In a post shared on Instagram, the controversial artist revealed that officials cited a lack of proper development approval and inadequate airspace as reasons for the impending closure.

Alongside the post, Portable shared a letter from the authorities and images of the bar, making a passionate plea for reconsideration. Portable claimed that during the government’s intervention, more than 20 people—including artists and patrons—were apprehended.

Their vehicles, motorcycles, and phones were allegedly confiscated. He further stated that officials not only targeted his bar but also sealed his unfinished building and hotel. The singer emphasized that ODOWGU Bar is more than just a drinking spot—it serves as a hub for events, a platform for promoting local talent, and a source of income for him and his family.

He also highlighted his contributions to the community, such as installing streetlights and initiating road repairs before government intervention. Portable’s heartfelt message has sparked outrage among his fans, who are calling on the Ogun State Government to reconsider its decision and find a resolution that supports both local businesses and the community.

In his caption, he wrote:

“I believe in Eledumare, nobody can bring me down. They took over 20 people, including artists and customers, along with their cars, bikes, phones, and even JBL speakers.

They sealed my new uncompleted building and hotel—why? This is my hometown, and we didn’t even resist them. They took all the drinks and food from ODOWGU Bar.

I use this place to book events and shows, not just sell drinks. I promote and support people here.

The government should ask—I installed streetlights everywhere, and I called them for road repairs before they even came.

Why would they do this to my property, which I use to feed my family? They even came after me where I was, but God is greater!”
