Media personality Radiogad has weighed in on the surname debate surrounding Mr Eazi and Temi Otedola’s recent wedding, and his take is raising eyebrows.
The couple’s marriage got people talking online after Temi decided to drop her famous maiden name and take her husband’s surname, Ajibade.
But Radiogad thinks Mr Eazi might have played his cards wrong.
In a video he shared on Instagram, the media personality argued that the singer missed a golden opportunity by sticking to tradition.
According to Radiogad, Mr Eazi should have considered the power and influence that comes with the Otedola name.
“The biggest mistake Mr Eazi made was giving his surname to Temi Otedola,” he said.
“You no know who you marry? Sometimes a man suppose humble himself, collect surname of a woman—especially when you are marrying someone as powerful and influential as Otedola pikin.
Mr Eazi, if you collect that surname, you dey do yourself a favour.”
Radiogad’s point is pretty straightforward – when you’re marrying into one of Nigeria’s most powerful families, why not embrace the advantages that come with it?
He believes there are situations where it makes perfect sense for men to take their wives’ surnames, especially when the woman’s family carries significant weight in society.
His comments have split opinion online. Some people are nodding in agreement, seeing the logic in his business-minded approach to marriage.
Others feel Temi made the right choice by following tradition and taking her husband’s name.
