Gistlover reported that the content creator Ushie Rita Uguamaye, alias Raye, has publicly apologized following an outcry over a viral video she created disparaging Nigeria’s business climate and mentioning a bad smell in Lagos.
Her comments sparked outrage, and an attempt was made to have her brought in for a disciplinary hearing with the Local Government Inspector. Raye, in response, took to Instagram to defend her comments and apologize for the way in which they were received.
She clarified that her utterances were for the “30-day” rant challenge to bring to the forefront economic grievances in Nigeria. Though she indicated she had hoped to get attention by Day 20, her statements went viral sooner than anticipated.
“I want to first of all say that I AM SORRY to the people born and raised in Lagos if you are offended by what I tweeted,” she wrote.
“As a guest here, I could perceive a difference in the mood and quality of air. If what I said moved you and your love for your home state, I apologize. I did not intend to look down upon Lagos.” Raye also provided perspective on economic suffering, pointing out the impossibility of being able to afford basic leisure despite long working hours. She urged Nigerians to keep their eyes on the ball by calling for better living standards rather than being distracted by temporary controversies.
