A retired Nigerian female soldier poured her heart out on TikTok, slamming the Federal Government for what she sees as a painful double standard: showering Super Falcons players with $100,000 each for their WAFCON win while leaving military veterans like her struggling with meager benefits after decades of service.
In a raw, emotional video shared by Gistlover, the ex-soldier—who chose not to share her name—broke down her frustration.
After 31 years of putting her life on the line, she received just ₦8 million in retirement benefits, an amount she says can’t even buy a plot of land in today’s economy.
“I served for 31 years, gave my life for them,” she said, her voice heavy with disappointment. “That ₦8 million isn’t enough to start over.”
She spoke of feeling invisible after leaving the military. “When I was in the army, you wouldn’t know me.
Now that I’m out, they don’t even recognize me,” she shared, describing how the system seemed to turn its back on her.
“They frustrated me left and right. And now, they’re refusing to pay us what we’re owed.”
The veteran didn’t hold back, demanding the government settle outstanding allowances like parking allowance, Special Allowance Duty (SAD), and Severance Duty Allowance (SDA), which she said were promised but never delivered to long-serving officers.
“They’re giving me ₦3.4 million—not even half of what I deserve after 31 years,” she added, her words laced with disbelief.
She reminded everyone of the military’s critical role in keeping Nigeria safe, warning that if soldiers were to strike for even 24 hours, the country could crumble.
“The whole of Nigeria would sink,” she said passionately.
“They’d bomb that villa where he stays. We’re out here giving our lives, and they don’t even value us. Can he stand for one minute without a soldier behind him?”
