Rymir Satterthwaite, the long-time self-claiming rapper Jay-Z as his biological father, has officially dismissed his federal lawsuit against the music mogul. The 30-year-old confirmed the action in an Instagram video posted on July 27 and declared that he is dismissing the case due to some undisclosed developments behind the scenes.
Despite the withdrawal, Satterthwaite said he is not ending his campaign, but that he is requesting a strategic recess, rather than an abandonment. He reaffirmed his determination to still pursue the issue through other channels.
Satterthwaite has been making claims in public for years that Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, is his father after a one-night stand with his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, in the 1990s. He filed a lawsuit this year to seek his claim of paternity.
To that end, lawyers for Jay-Z submitted court documents on June 16, staunchly refuting the charges. They argued that Satterthwaite’s claims had already been rejected by a number of courts over a period of years and labeled the federal lawsuit the latest in what they called on-going and unfounded harassment.
Jay-Z’s attorneys also argued that the lawsuit had not been properly served, asserting that the rapper knew nothing about the case until a month after May when it was filed. They requested an extension of time to review the complaint and determine how to respond.
In his first complaint, Satterthwaite established that his suit was not intended to be a claim for retroactive child support. Rather, he was pursuing damages for emotional distress and damage to his reputation, arguing that Jay-Z had engaged in fraudulent legal practice and manipulated court proceedings in multiple states in order to suppress his claim of paternity.
