Sarah Martins Arrested During Lekki Charity Outreach: Lagos Government Explains Why

Actress Sarah Martins

The Lagos State Government has broken its silence on the arrest of Nollywood actress Sarah Martins, whose detention while feeding the less privileged has stirred controversy online.

Sarah was picked up by officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC/KAI) on October 16, 2025, while cooking and handing out free meals on a road median along Admiralty Way in Lekki Phase 1.

The actress later claimed she was harassed during the incident and that hot oil was poured on her hand in the chaos.

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, addressed the situation in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), saying Sarah’s actions broke environmental and sanitation laws.

Wahab explained that conducting such activities on public roads creates safety hazards, damages road infrastructure, and disrupts traffic.

“The government remains committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and sustainable environment for all residents,” the statement said, adding that citizens should use designated spaces or get proper approval before organizing similar programs.

Sarah Martins, who founded the Golden Heart Foundation, hasn’t responded to the government’s explanation yet.

Her foundation, launched in 2014, works to support vulnerable children and women across Nigeria, a cause that has won her widespread respect over the years.
