SDP Bans El-Rufai for 30 Years Over Alleged False Membership, Forgery, and Party Destabilization

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, for a period of 30 years on the charges of impersonating a party member, forgery of membership documents, and attempting to destabilize party structures.

In a press statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Working Committee stated that El-Rufai made false claims on social media of joining the SDP when he had not registered at his ward level in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution. He was also alleged to have forged documents to establish membership and taken photo opportunities with suspended party leaders to validate his false assertions.

The party stated that an investigation affirmed El-Rufai’s failure to meet the minimum qualifying criteria for membership and cited his history of persecuting the SDP during his tenure as an APC governor.

“Having confirmed that he openly declared for the ADC and continued to contravene the principles and practices of the SDP, the party has no option other than to disown and excommunicate him,” the statement read.

El-Rufai was also accused of attempting to stage a grand welcome ceremony at the SDP National Secretariat in Abuja, which the party turned down, and he was directed to follow due process at his ward level. Instead, he was reported to have falsified his registration documents, making himself “number 001” on the Unguwar Sarki Ward register in contravention of all party records.

The prohibition by the SDP bars El-Rufai from applying for membership, utilizing the party’s name or symbols, or participating in any SDP activities for the next 30 years with immediate effect.
