Seven people are missing and feared trapped under rubble after a massive structure collapsed at a power plant in South Korea on Thursday.
The accident happened around 2 p.m. local time at the Korea East-West Power headquarters in Ulsan, a city on the country’s southeast coast.
A 60-meter-high boiler tower and a large section of the facility came crashing down while workers were on site.
Emergency teams have rescued two people so far, but seven others remain unaccounted for. Rescue crews are working through the debris, searching for survivors.
Prime Minister Kim Min-seok has ordered all government agencies to “mobilize all available personnel and equipment” to focus on the rescue operation.
Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution, according to his office.
The collapsed facility was a decommissioned thermal power plant.
Local media reports indicate the structure came down during preparations for its demolition, though the plant had already been shut down and taken out of service.
The National Fire Agency is leading the emergency response, while authorities investigate what caused the collapse.
This is a developing story as rescue operations continue.
