Controversial rapper Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington, has made headlines once again after revealing that he has been arrested 19 times and detained on five separate occasions. Speed Darlington’s strained relationship with law enforcement has been a recurring topic in the media. His most recent brushes with the law occurred in October and November 2024, after he mocked Burna Boy’s relationship with American music executive Sean Combs, also known as Diddy.
In a recent Instagram post, the ‘Bangdadadang’ crooner boasted about his frequent encounters with the police in a freestyle video, which he posted weeks after being released from detention.
“Five lockups, 19 arrests, I get game but I no dey hear. When you hear this one, na Kuje. If you mature, I move on, shame on you,” he rapped.
It is important to note that Speed Darlington was detained at the Kuje Correctional Facility and was only released on January 21, 2025, after being granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja. Shortly after his release, Speed Darlington made headlines again by alleging that he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt while returning from a club in Lagos. His claims sparked controversy, and in the aftermath, his lawyer, Stan Alieke, announced that he was severing ties with the rapper.
Reacting to the departure of his lawyer, Speed Darlington remarked that Alieke was free to leave if he had grown tired of supporting him.
