Texas Substitute Teacher Faces Backlash for Calling ICE on Students Over Language Barrier

A substitute teacher in Texas is under investigation after allegedly posting on social media, urging Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to raid North Side High School in Fort Worth. The teacher, known on X (formerly Twitter) as @Hookem232, claimed many of his students “don’t even speak English” and criticized the U.S. education system.

In the controversial post, which was reportedly made under an ICE update on immigration operations, the teacher wrote: “Come to Fort Worth, TX, to Northside High School. I have many students who don’t even speak English, and they are in 10th-11th grade. They have to communicate through their iPhone translator with me. The [U.S. Department of Education] should totally overhaul our school system in Texas too.”

The post sparked outrage, prompting Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) to launch an investigation into the matter.

“We are aware of a recent social media post referencing North Side High School, allegedly made by a substitute teacher, which has caused concern among our Fort Worth ISD community,” the district said in an official statement.

“We take this matter very seriously and are conducting a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances and ensure appropriate actions are taken.”
