Tinubu Orders FEC Committee to Tackle Rising Food Prices, Ensure Safe Passage of Farm Produce

The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu directed a committee in the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to take immediate action to further reduce food prices nationwide.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja during a one-day capacity building workshop for journalists reporting the Senate, Abdullahi explained that the directive is aimed at guaranteeing safe passage of agricultural foods and commodities along main transportation axes, thereby making cost less and access greater for Nigerians.

I can authoritatively confirm that a marching order has been issued by the President. A committee of the Federal Executive Council is already working to guarantee safe passage of agricultural foods and commodities on our roads,” he stated.

The Minister noted that expensive transport remains a major cause of expensive food and underscored that tackling the problem was at the center of the President’s vision of food sovereignty that includes food availability, accessibility, affordability, and nutritional adequacy on a sustainable basis.

Abdullahi also hinted at some future plans, including the launch of the Farmer Soil Health Scheme and the reforming of cooperative reforms, which he described as central to resource mobilisation, economic activity generation, and improvement in members’ livelihoods.

He also challenged journalists to embrace the cooperative principles, which he further described as democratic but highly productive, noting that President Tinubu has the strongest interest in making the cooperative sector robust as a tool for national development.
