Trump Administration U.S. Tariff Revenue Surpasses 2024 Total in First Half of 2025

Over $87 billion in tariff revenue was collected by the United States during the first six months of 2025, according to U.S. Treasury data compiled by AFP. This figure has surpassed the $79 billion gathered in all of 2024.

This surge has been attributed to President Donald Trump‘s overhaul of America’s trade policies. Post-WWII economic policies that favored free trade have been scrapped, and tariffs have been imposed on a wide range of trading partners and products, including steel.

New trade agreements have been reached with several countries, and although the finalized tariffs are generally lower than the steepest rates initially threatened by Trump, they are still significantly higher than previous norms.

In June alone, $26.6 billion in tariff revenue was collected, which is nearly four times the amount collected in January. This is contributing to what is expected to be one of the most profitable years for U.S. tariff enforcement, with the highest-ever annual revenue from tariffs being recorded in 2022 at $98 billion.

The impact of his trade strategy was hailed by Trump on Thursday, with claims that the sweeping tariffs are making the country “great & rich again.” On his Truth Social platform, it was posted: “ONE YEAR AGO, AMERICA WAS A DEAD COUNTRY, NOW IT IS THE ‘HOTTEST’ COUNTRY ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.”

New trade deals and tariff hikes, including a 50% levy on copper imports, are set to take effect on August 1. Around 80 countries, including the 27 EU member states, will face new tariff rates ranging from 11% to 50%.
