Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani has refuted claims that he is being politically tutored by his predecessor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and instead cited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and deceased human rights activist Chief Gani Fawehinmi as his greatest inspirations.
In referring to addressing an interview on TVC’s “Politics on Sunday”, the governor reiterated that he remains determined to give good governance and shall not be distracted by political insinuations.
I don’t believe that is something I am required to answer,” Sani said. “Even President Bola Tinubu I met him for the first time in 1994 at Beko Ransome-Kuti’s residence. Gani Fawehinmi was my leader and father; I resided in his house during the period of struggle. My destination is Kaduna. I am focused my eyes are on the ball.”.
The governor also debunked allegations that his administration was paying ransom to bandits in restive areas, describing the reports as politically motivated falsehood.
“Politicians are playing with insecurity. Citizens should disregard them. We have never paid one dime to any bandit. What we are doing is blending kinetic and non-kinetic efforts, collaborating with security agencies and community leaders particularly in Birnin Gwari where the results are being felt,” he explained.
Regarding the recent disruption of a session of an opposition transition committee, Governor Sani distanced himself from the incident, maintaining his position in support of the rule of law.
“As an individual who fought for the rule of law and was arrested five times, I will never be opposed to muzzling anybody’s political activities. Chief Gani Fawehinmi always taught us to obey the police if we do not want anarchy. The police are investigating; let us give them space to work,” he said.
The governor also used the electoral triumph of the APC governing party in Kaduna as evidence of inclusive governance.
“In Kaduna, we won 70 per cent of the elections. We had never won Chikun and Kajuru before. Labour Party won there two years ago, but this time, we took everyone with us. We do not govern along religious or ethnic lines,” Sani added.
