Unoma Akpabio, wife of Nigeria’s Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has strongly dismissed allegations of sexual harassment leveled against her husband by Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The controversy erupted after Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of denying her certain privileges in the Senate because she had allegedly rejected his advances. The claim quickly gained traction, sparking heated discussions across political and social circles.
In an interview on Arise TV on Friday, Unoma Akpabio described the accusations as “unfortunate and demeaning,” insisting that her husband has always maintained a respectable relationship with women throughout his political career.
“The accusation—I would rather call it unfortunate—is very demeaning because that is a family. We knew her husband before he married her.
They were very good friends or are still very good friends, so I really don’t understand where this is coming from,” she said. She also suggested that such serious allegations are usually discussed privately within a household before being made public.
Expressing disbelief, she questioned whether Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s husband would have sanctioned such claims without first addressing them internally.
