VeryDarkMan Mourns Slain Fish Vendor ‘Fish Magnet’ in Emotional Tribute, Calls Out Insecurity in Anambra

Nigerian activist VeryDarkMan has been left in shock at the tragic death of a young fish vendor known as “Fish Magnet,” who reportedly was kidnapped and murdered before he could give a gift of smoked fish meant to appreciate the activist’s work.

Describing the vendor’s gesture in a tearful video uploaded on Instagram, VeryDarkMan said that the vendor had penned a heartfelt note prior to his death, saying:

“It will bring me more happiness to donate these fish to VeryDarkMan than selling them. Please assist me in tagging him so I can get these fish over there.”

Unfortunately, the vendor never had the opportunity to complete the act of kindness.

“Unfortunately, he will not be able to give me that fish as he was kidnapped and killed… What was his fault? If you scroll through his page, all he ever does is promote his business,” VeryDarkMan said, obviously shaken.

He also shared screenshots of their previous conversation, where the seller was excited about sending the smoked fish:

Big brother, please, it will be an honour to deliver this fish across to you. It’s already baking in the oven.”

Utilizing the tragic incident to draw attention to Nigeria’s heightening insecurity, the activist criticized Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, questioning the security of the average citizen:

“Governor Soludo, your children are overseas. If Nigeria was unsafe, you would not have sent them there. What hope do we have in Nigeria when entrepreneurs are killed just for trying to operate business?”

VeryDarkMan also suggested organizing a candlelight procession in Anambra on 3rd or 4th of August to pay tribute to the killed vendor with the caveat that it should not conflict with the sit-at-home directives within the region.

“Let us remember him and look back at the growing insecurity. Benue or Jos farmers daily. It is becoming the norm too normal.”

He ended the video with a sincere call to Nigerian youth:

“We can’t keep pretending there is no insecurity. The earlier we start taking it seriously, the better for all of us.”

The emotional tribute has since sparked general upset and outrage on social media, with individuals mourning the passing of a man whose only “crime” was to offer thanks.
