The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has welcomed the appointment of Professor Chituru Godwill Orluwene as the new Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).
Wike expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for appointing another qualified indigene of Rivers State to a key federal position, describing the move as a reflection of the President’s goodwill towards the state and its people. He said Rivers State would continue to support the Tinubu administration in recognition of its commitment to inclusive governance.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described Professor Orluwene’s appointment as a well-deserved choice, noting that it aligned with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He encouraged the new CMD to draw on his experience and expertise to further improve healthcare delivery at UPTH, while working closely with staff and other stakeholders to strengthen the hospital’s services.
Wike also thanked the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, for his role in recommending Orluwene for the position.
“I congratulate Professor Orluwene on this appointment and urge him to collaborate with all stakeholders at UPTH to ensure the continued delivery of quality healthcare services to Nigerians,” the minister said.
