The Senior Special Assistant to the Minister in the Federal Capital Territory, Lere Olayinka, has criticized the Nigerian Labour Party’s 2023 presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, for seeking media attention instead of working on his political future.
In a statement released on Thursday, Olayinka clarified that the FCT Administration under Minister Nyesom Wike was not advocating the “beer parlour-style governance” Obi allegedly practiced for eight years as Anambra State governor but real, tangible development projects.
He disclosed that 73 schools were under renovation within the six area councils of the FCT while 21 had already been completed. Olayinka made the statement following the recent visit of Obi to a run-down primary school in Kuje Area Council, which the former governor labelled as a “national shame.
While admitting that some schools remained in disrepair, Olayinka maintained that the FCTA was also making amends through over 100 sanctioned renovation contracts. Obi was challenged to make public how many schools he built or renovated as Anambra governor, accusing him of keeping state funds in private accounts rather than investing them in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Olayinka also teased Obi for his assertion that he could change Nigeria within four years, adding that he did not do so in Anambra within eight years.
The “internally displaced politician” and media visibility-dependent politician, Olayinka asked on which platform he intended to run for the 2027 presidential election taunting him for “roaming around shooting others down” without an obvious political base.
