A Nigerian woman has shared her perspective following a widely circulated court video where a man named Emmanuel sued her over what he called unpaid “transport fare.”
The woman, who says she only knew Emmanuel through online interactions, explained that he had pressured her to travel from Asaba to Abuja to meet him. She consistently refused his requests.
“I told Emmanuel he should visit my city instead, but he said he couldn’t visit a woman,” she recounted.
“Then he suddenly sent me ₦50,000, calling it transport fare. But ₦50,000 wouldn’t even cover the actual cost of traveling from Asaba to Abuja.”
When she didn’t make the trip, she claims Emmanuel and his associates began threatening her about the money. She says she offered to return the ₦50,000, but he refused and became hostile.
“What if something had happened to me if I’d gone there? People would have blamed me for that too,” she said, expressing frustration with the situation.
In an unexpected revelation, the woman disclosed that she ultimately refunded Emmanuel ₦450,000 – significantly more than the ₦50,000 mentioned in the viral discussion.
She also alleged that despite court rules prohibiting recordings, some people secretly filmed the proceedings, which led to the video going viral online.
