Media personality Yeni Kuti has shared her thoughts on a viral video showing veteran actress Ngozi Ezeonu publicly scolding two young actresses for attending an audition without wearing bras.
Speaking on a TVC program, Kuti argued that Ezeonu’s criticism was unnecessary, stating that the veteran actress could have simply declined to work with the young ladies instead of reprimanding them.
“I think it wasn’t really any of her business. All she had to do was reject them—’I don’t want people who dress like you,’—that’s all,” Kuti said.
She also criticized Ezeonu’s reference to her own past behavior, noting that older people often forget their youthful choices when judging younger generations.
“She said, ‘Even when I was your age.’ I don’t want to be a hypocrite because when I was that age, I wore tight jeans and small tops,” Kuti remarked.
Kuti further emphasized the need for older generations to avoid being overly critical of the choices made by young people, reflecting on how societal standards often evolve over time.
“When we’re criticizing young people, we forget what we did at 20 or 24. When my stomach was flat, if I wore something revealing, people might call me out.
But now, if I try it, people will say, ‘Aunty, are you not ashamed to be showing this your stomach around?’”
