The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, has ordered the intensification of surveillance and patrols around cemeteries by all Divisional Police Officers after yet another disturbing case of grave desecration in Potiskum Local Government Area.

The Police Spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated that an investigation is underway following a distress report it received on 23rd November 2025 that unknown persons had trespassed into the Nahuta graveyard at about midnight, exhuming the grave of a child and escaping with the corpse.

A police team immediately went to the scene and confirmed that the grave had been tampered with and the body removed. Abdulkarim said operatives have commenced full investigations into identifying and apprehending the culprits.

The Command expressed concern over what it described as an emerging and alarming trend. Earlier in the month, a similar incident was recorded in Jakusko Local Government Area. Efforts were still ongoing to track the suspects.

CP Ado, while condemning the grave violations as barbaric and unacceptable, called on the residents to be vigilant and cooperate with security agencies through the provision of credible information.

He further reassured the people that the police were still committed to protecting the sanctity of life and ensuring justice for the perpetrators.
