Aiyedatiwa Vows Justice for Owo Massacre Victims, Pledges Stronger Security in Ondo

Ondo State governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, reaffirmed his administration’s determination to pursue justice for the victims of the Owo terrorist attack on June 5, 2022, as he described security as a priority in the state.

Preaching a homily at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Akure, for the 15th Episcopal Anniversary and 35th Priestly Ordination Anniversary of Ondo Catholic Diocese’s Bishop, Most Rev. Jude Ayodeji Arogundade, Aiyedatiwa eulogized the bishop as a beacon of hope and peace whose pastoral leadership has transformed lives in Ondo and outside Ondo.

The governor also commended the Catholic Church for its immense contribution in advancing education, healthcare, and social development in the state.

Referring to some of the recent security measures, Aiyedatiwa revealed that his government had purchased 75 quality Hilux vehicles with state-of-the-art security equipment to improve the operations of security agencies, aside from providing monthly logistics support.

“The general effect of this alliance is the countrywide acknowledgment of Ondo State as being among the most secure in Nigeria. The people are able to go about their business without fear, and investors have even started seeing Ondo as a destination of choice,” he furthered.

Recalling the St. Francis Catholic Church attack in Owo, where terrorists killed approximately 40 worshippers and wounded dozens, Aiyedatiwa vowed that justice was being pursued, assuring that some suspects were arrested through concerted federal and state security efforts.

We pray that the memories of the victims of Owo be blessed forever. While we seek justice for them, let us stand as one against terror and criminality. Standing in love, we shall heal wounds, mend broken hearts, and keep our state safe,” he declared.

In his own words, Bishop Arogundade appreciated the government for their support and praised the restoration of the missionary schools to the church, vowing to maintain the quality of education built on moral standards.

The event was graced by dignitaries, clerics, and faithful from across the nation who attended to commemorate the bishop’s years of service.
