Daredevil kidnapper gunman has killed eight personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in an attack at the BUA Cement Factory, Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The attack, which occurred on Friday, August 5, 2025, around 10 pm, also injured four individuals and kidnapped a Chinese expatriate, while four others were rescued without any harm.
Joining in the commendation in a press statement issued in Benin City, state NSCDC public relations officer, Ogbebor Efosa, said that the officers were on an escort duty with five Chinese expatriates after a routine patrol when they were ambushed at the company’s entrance.
The armed kidnappers, who were very well equipped with sophisticated weapons, opened fire at NSCDC personnel, and they were engaged in a fierce gun duel,” Efosa said. “Despite the unfortunate loss of men, our men were able to rescue four expatriates. Unfortunately, one was swept away by the kidnappers, who escaped into the bush.”
Efosa added that the injured officers were immediately evacuated and are receiving treatment at an unnamed hospital.
The Edo State NSCDC Commandant, Agun Gbenga, visited the site of the crime and the hospital where the victims of the attack were undergoing treatment subsequently.
Joint security operations with other sister agencies have in the meantime begun, as security operatives combed surrounding forests searching for the kidnappers.
“Meanwhile, our operatives and other security men are on the ground, combing the bush into which the attackers fled. We are doing everything to secure safe release of the expatriate kidnap victim and bring the culprits to justice,” Efosa reassured.
