Two years after a fire destroyed his Lekki residence, Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has spoken for the first time with an emotional message of gratitude and defiance.
In an Instagram vlog, AY recounted the fire’s traumatic destruction of his home, peace, and personal sanctuary. “All I loved went up in flames,” he testified, quoting the emotional harm and feelings of betrayal that he felt later.
Despite the ordeal, the comedian swore that his religion continued to be his anchor and gave him inspiration to go on purposefully.
Now, AY not only reconstructed his home but transformed it into a work of art with marble floors, stunning staircases, and a harmonious blend of Afrocentric and modern interior design.
Discussing his experience in terms of finding “beauty after ashes,” he shared that each failure paved the way for an even stronger comeback.
The fire, which temporarily rendered his family homeless, had also seen a tidal wave of sympathy from fans, friends, and industry peers alike an act, which AY still holds dear to his heart.
