DELSU Student Rusticated for Four Semesters After Filming Dying Classmate and Sharing Video on Social Media

Delta State University (DELSU) in Abraka has suspended a second-year Microbiology student, Ezi Ugoma, for four semesters following a disturbing incident where she filmed a dying fellow student and posted the video on TikTok.

In a letter dated October 21, 2025, signed by Principal Assistant Registrar Ughwumiakpor A, the university confirmed the disciplinary action after Ugoma appeared before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee on August 21, 22, and 25, 2025.

The student faced charges of gross misconduct and violating her matriculation oath after recording a tragic scene at the university’s health centre.

The victim reportedly suffered complications following an abortion procedure.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Samuel O. Asagba approved the committee’s recommendation to rusticate Ugoma for four semesters, starting from the 2025/2026 academic session.

She won’t be able to return to her studies until the 2027/2028 session.

The disciplinary letter outlined two main charges against Ugoma:

  • Gross misconduct

  • Breaking her matriculation oath by inappropriately filming a dying student at the University Health Centre and sharing the footage on TikTok

DELSU authorities stressed that this punishment reflects the institution’s strict stance against behavior that damages the university’s reputation and compromises student welfare.

The rustication letter has been sent to Ugoma’s sponsor and relevant university departments for appropriate action.
