Empowering Inclusion: Nigeria’s First Lady Extends Financial Support to Persons With Disabilities

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched a major financial empowerment program for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and disabled veterans across the country. The initiative, part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme, aims to promote inclusive growth and shared prosperity.

A total of N1.9 billion will be disbursed to 9,500 PWDs nationwide, with each beneficiary receiving a N200,000 Business Recapitalization Grant. The program covers all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Senator Tinubu emphasized the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth, stating that empowering PWDs enables them to contribute to the nation’s development. The First Lady announced that the RHI Governing Board has approved making the Economic Empowerment Programme for PWDs an annual event.

The event coincided with the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, themed “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress.” Lady Valerie Fubara, wife of the Rivers State governor, represented the First Lady and encouraged beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely.

The program aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to promote inclusive growth and shared prosperity. The event also featured the enrollment of 250 PWDs into Rivers State’s contributory health protection programme, providing them with access to free medical care.
