The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has removed a Divisional Police Officer from his post after a video showing him slapping a young man went viral online.
The incident happened on Wednesday, October 22, at Ushafa Division and quickly sparked outrage when the clip hit social media. Nigerians flooded the comments, calling out the officer for abusing his power.
In a statement by command spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner condemned the officer’s behavior as unprofessional and beneath the standards expected of law enforcement.
“The officer’s actions fall short of the high standards of discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of police officers,” the statement said.
“Such behaviour will not be tolerated under my leadership.”
The DPO has been reassigned to State Headquarters while an investigation is underway. Disciplinary action is also in progress.
CP Dantawaye used the opportunity to warn all divisional officers and their teams to stay professional and respectful on duty, stressing that any future misconduct would result in serious consequences.
He also urged the public to remain respectful when interacting with officers, emphasizing that cooperation works both ways in building trust between police and communities.
